We are very grateful to Sport England for a £9000 grant to purchase 12 kayaks along with a new canoe trailer to carry them. This was awarded as part of their Return to Play programme.
This funding has also permitted us to buy a new canoe trailer which will make supporting water activities much easier.
After a long break away from normal meetings, the Beavers enjoy their first session on the water using the new kayaks that we have purchased. All the children in the group are now into the summer programme of activities which includes working towards their Paddle Power awards.
Over the summer all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers will get experience in kayaks, sit on kayaks, paddle boards and Canadian Canoes. It is expected that Scouts and Explorers will gain coaching qualifications if they are with the group long enough. #SkillsForLife
The group’s water activities are now managed by our recently formed Scout Activity Support Unit which is training adult volunteers to become accredited coaches. They are always looking for additional members especially if they have water activity skills.
