Discovery Explorers’ Uniform

What do Discovery Explorers wear?

Explorers is all about making your own decisions. Discovery Explorers have decided they’ll wear casual uniform for most of their meetings. Casual uniform are Discovery hoodies, neckerchief, trousers and shoes of your choice. Once a month and for formal occasions they’ll wear their full uniform which is their light blue uniform shirt, necker, black trousers, black socks and black shoes.

Neckerchiefs

Everyone who is a member of 2nd Beeston Sea Scouts wears our distinct group Neckerchief, which is black and gold in colour with our group badge on the back. The Neckerchief easily identifies us from other Scout groups, and each group has their own design. The Explorers Neckerchief costs £7 and you can purchase this from us when your child is invested. If they’ve come from Scouts they may not need a new necker.

Here’s where to sew those badges…

This guide should help you know where the badges should be sewn on. Please ask us if you are unsure, and we’ll happily show you!

Where you can buy uniform

The official Sea Scout jersey can either be bought from the Scout Store online.

Casual Uniform

The casual uniform is a royal blue polo shirt and a royal blue hoodie, and you can have your Explorers’ name on there too! Explorers just need to wear their necker, and appropriate trousers/shorts/shoes/trainers when they wear their casual uniform.

You can purchase casual uniform from TGR Embroidery here.

Activity clothing

As you may already know by now, Sea Scouts involves lots of water activities mainly on Barton Island, which means getting very wet, and sometimes a little bit dirty/muddy. We’ll provide a kit list for the activities. You shouldn’t need to go out and buy hundreds of pounds of water activity gear. Old t shirts, shorts, lightweight joggers, and old trainers are more than good enough for the activities we do. We will loan a buoyancy aid for Explorers to use for water activities but you can purpose one of your own if you wish.

Scouting is a diverse and inclusive movement where all children have access everything we have on offer. If the cost of uniform or other kit prevents your child from joining us please speak to us on a Friday evening before or after Scouts. We’ll find somewhere out of the way and talk you through our support options. Alternatively you can email us
