The Scout section is the third section in the Scouting family – 10½ – 14 years old.
Outdoor activities feature prominently in the Scout Programme, with the highlight invariably being camping which, in the summer holidays, can often mean spending a week under canvas. Sometimes Scouts will camp overseas – either visiting an international Scout Centre or attending a mini-Jamboree.
Throughout the year, Scouts learn various skills, such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid in preparation for their camps. They also learn a range of survival skills. Other activities within the Scout section can include gliding, rock-climbing, photography and IT related activities
- Our Scout Leader Ben, passes his FSRT course
- Marex Marine and Risk Consultancy supports safety training
- Running repairs to the scoop stretcher
- scouts achieve powerboat success
In the cold months (typically September to Easter) the Sea Scouts meet at the Lilac Grove HQ on Fridays 7:30 – 9pm
In the summer months (typically Easter to September) the Scouts move to our Barton Island base. They usually meet at Beeston Marina at 6:15pm.
This section builds on the basic training members receive in the Cub Scout Pack, setting higher challenges and encouraging Scouts to take the initiative in leading some aspects of their programme.
There is an extensive range of Activity badges that Scouts can earn. The range is diverse and Scouts are encouraged to take on new challenges and embark on new adventures when working for these badges.
Our Group has the added advantage of having its own Water Activities Centre on Barton Island and offers a range of specialised Sea Scout activities to members of the Scout Troop.
